It is definitely a step forward in terms of stopping use of fossil fuels and combating pollution. But electric cars will bring their own set of problems, which are hard to foresee right now. The problem with cars is not that they pollute per se, but because there are so many of them. However, actual consumer behavior shows that people don't want to buy an electric car, and this can be attributed to the lack of intrest. Electric cars don't have the prestige that comes with good old fashioned, gas-powered cars or expensive sports cars. Electric cars are a smart purchase both for your pocket and for the planet, and there needs to be an effort made to showcase their practicality and supremacy, to finally get the attention and buyers they deserve.
